Members of GMEC are employed by FICE member firms that provide engineering laboratory services and practice geotechnical engineering.

GMEC Award

The GMEC Award recognizes outstanding personal efforts on the part of its recipient to advance the technical and professional practice of geotechnical engineering firms in Florida for a minimum of ten (10) years.

Basic Criteria

1. Candidate must be a resident of Florida and may or may not be an engineer.
2. If the candidate is involved in the private practice of geotechnical and materials engineering, the candidate should be employed by a firm that is both a member of the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) and the Geotechnical and Materials Engineers Council (GMEC). However, the candidate shall not be a current member of either the Geotechnical & Materials Engineers Council (GMEC) Executive Committee or the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) Board of Directors.
3. The candidate's personal efforts shall have helped advance the technical and professional practice of geotechnical engineering firms in Florida for a minimum of 10 years.
4. The award can be presented at the discretion of the GMEC Executive Committee, but no more than one per year.

Procedure

1. Candidate may be nominated by any firm member of the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers no later than 60 days prior to the GMEC Annual Conference.
2. Nominations shall be in a written form and include a complete resume on the candidate together with such other materials as may be helpful to the GMEC Executive Committee in its review.
3. Each nomination shall contain a citation for the particular activity involved together with additional material supporting the basis for recommendation.
4. Upon approval by the GMEC Executive Committee, a suitable plaque or citation shall be prepared, presented at the GMEC Annual Conference and recognized at the FICE Annual Banquet.
