Energy Committee

Study and make recommendations to the Commission on Legislative and Government Relations of the Florida Engineering Society with respect to energy matters affecting the public and the profession. Prepare studies and make recommendations to the Commission on energy policies or positions that would be appropriate for the Society to adopt and promote. Monitor the activities of the Public Service Commission and other state agencies or legislative groups with an energy interest to insure that sound engineering knowledge and practice are employed in protecting the public's interest and in making regulations that will impact on the public. Coordinate with the National Society of Professional Engineers in its energy-related activities and represent the Florida viewpoint in their deliberations when appropriate. Encourage and participate in workshops and/or seminars for members of the Society to discuss and develop methods and criteria that can lead to energy conservation through design/construction, and operation. This is to ensure that the members of the Society have adequate opportunity to remain technically qualified in energy-related matters and to understand and assist the public in meeting state or federally mandated energy management requirements. If feasible, initiate and sponsor such workshops on issues of extreme importance that are not adequately treated in other seminars and workshops. Encourage research and development leading to new and improved concepts of energy production, application, and conservation. Prepare and present statements before federal and state agencies at energy-oriented hearings as may be requested by those agencies or as may be initiated by the Committee or elsewhere in the Society and properly approved for such presentation.
