What is the Florida Engineering Foundation?
The Florida Engineering Foundation (FEF) was established in 1986 to encourage and assist students in pursuing engineering careers and to educate the public about engineering. Founded by a group of engineers with the Florida Engineering Society, our volunteer-based organization encourages involvement of educators, business, industry and government. The Foundation is authorized to receive and administer funds for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501 (c) (3) of the IRS code.
Our Goals:
- To assist students in and into engineering
- To provide resources to engineering programs in Florida
- To promote diversity in engineering education
- To raise public awareness of the role of engineering in society.
What has the Foundation done?
During our first twenty years, the Foundation has channeled over $400,000 to the MATHCOUNTS program. Presently, we provide the largest contribution to the State Competition. In addition, annually, we have funded scholarships, now numbering 15, provided educational grants to support local programs through FES chapters, and provided scholarships to the State Science Fair. At the same time we are growing a corpus of funds that will ultimately support the entire state MathCounts program, fund more and larger scholarships, supplement university faculty salaries, support graduate research programs and support other named and unnamed worthwhile projects.

What will the Foundation do this year?
This year the Foundation Trustees have taken a leap of faith and expanded our proposed annual expenditures to over $65,000 including five new or expanded sponsored initiatives: an expanded State Science Fair support including engineering internships for winning students, partnering with the State of Florida to provide science teachers financial rewards, assistance in the production of K-12 engineering presentation materials, support to university student chapters entering local and national competitions and an addition of two scholarships targeted specifically for minority students. In addition to these new programs we will provide $30,000 for scholarships and $6,000 to the state MathCounts competition. Provided our membership continues to grow, all funds donated after these programs are funded, will increase our corpus of funds.
