FES/FICE
Leadership Institute

Leadership is the key to returning the engineering profession
to its rightful place as a positive force in shaping
society. We can only do that by becoming stronger community
professionals, walk with decision-makers as their trusted
advisor and contribute to policy making outside our own
special industry interests. Over the years, we evolved a weird management model
whereby the best managers rose to the top and "leadership" was
considered an attribute of management. As a society,
we are great managers and have "managed-ourselves-in-knots" on
health care, tax reform, tort reform, corporate governance
as well as a host of other issues du jour in our own
profession... and perhaps lead ourselves nowhere.
Today's
paradigm shift is that our profession (and society) needs
a leadership model with passionate
people on missions...
where metric "management" is an attribute of
leadership... new leaders with the courage to grow leaders
who groom leaders, not just amass followers. Today, it's
missions over metrics... proactive over reactive... the
heart joins the logic of the mind with a dose of goodness
to do what's right and responsible. Our greatest generation is somewhere in front of us.
Leadership programs like the FES/FICE Leadership Institute
are the first step in grooming these folks to effect
change... and turn our thinking upside down!
Cheers!
