2020 Legislative Session Comes to an End
I am happy to announce that ACEC/FL and FES were successful in removing language from SB 72 that would have allowed state universities to procure design professional services without complying with 287.055 F.S., or CCNA. It was not an easy accomplishment.
The change was made late on Friday, March 13th near midnight and was the next to the last bill passed by the House. I want to extend a special thank you to our lobbying team; Jon Johnson and the entire team at Johnson and Blanton, as well as all of
our members who contacted their Senators in this effort. We know there were hundreds of messages sent, and we know we would have lost had it not been for the efforts of these members.
I am also pleased to report that legislation to repeal the Professional Engineers license in 2024 (Sunset Bill) died in messages to the Senate having not been heard in all Senate committees of reference. The rest of the session went well with the exception of legislation that removed the fire engineer’s seat from the Florida Building Commission. We will be looking at steps we can take to rectify that situation in the future.
