Student Service Award

Basic Criteria - Deadline April 10

  1. Candidate must be a member of an FES student chapter.
  2. Candidate shall meet all of the following criteria: a. Shall have attended at least 80% of the chapter meetings during the school term. b. Shall have served as an officer or committee chairman in the FES student chapter. c. Shall have actively served on another FES student chapter committee. d. Shall have brought not less than two new members into the student chapter.
  3. Candidate shall have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the promotion of the engineer image by activity in any of the following areas: a. Professionalism and ethics. b. Technical societies. c. Campus politics or activities. d. Engineering college projects. e. Community service.
  4. The award shall be given annually, if merited.

Procedure

  1. The FES Student Professional Development Committee chairman shall appoint annually an awards subcommittee consisting of not less than five members of the committee. Subcommittee members may be reappointed.
  2. Candidates shall be nominated by FES student chapters prior to May 1st of each year. Each student chapter may submit no more than two nominations.
  3. The nomination shall be in written form and shall include information on how the candidate meets the basic criteria for the award and such additional information as may be helpful to the award subcommittee. The nomination form shall contain endorsing signatures of the student chapter president (or other officer if the president is the candidate), the chapter faculty advisor and the dean of the college of engineering.
  4. The awards subcommittee will review the nominations and make its recommendation to the Student Professional Development Committee Chairman. Upon approval by the Student Professional Development Committee Chairman and the FES Board of Directors, the winner of the FES Student Service Award will be presented a suitable token, plaque, or certificate at the FES annual meeting or other appropriate occasion. There shall be only one recipient of the award annually.

Engineering Faculty Member of the Year

Basic Criteria - Deadline April 10

  1. Candidate must be a member of FES or a registered professional engineer, and a member of the engineering faculty at a school with a current FES student chapter.
  2. Candidate shall have exemplified and consistently worked to promote the ideals of professional engineering within the educational system.
  3. The candidate shall have shown a superior ability to communicate the fundamentals of engineering to engineering students on a consistent basis.
  4. The candidate shall have shown support and offered guidance to engineering students, and encouraged participation in worthwhile student activities and societies.

Procedure

  1. Candidate may be nominated by the local student chapter through the chapter’s president, prior to May 1 of each year.
  2. Each student chapter may submit only one nominee each year.
  3. The chapter nomination shall be in written form and include a complete resume on the candidate together with such other material as may be helpful to the judging committee in its review.
  4. The nomination shall contain a citation written by a student chapter member illustrating how the candidate meets the basic criteria. The nomination shall contain endorsing signatures of all the student chapter officers.
  5. The judging subcommittee shall consist of no more than five members of the Student Professional Development Committee and may by reappointed from the previous committees. The subcommittee can be the same as that appointed to judge the other awards of the Student Professional Development Committee.
  6. The award shall consist of a suitable plaque or certificate. 

Outstanding Service to a FES Student Chapter Award

Basic Criteria - Deadline April 10

  1. Candidate must be a member of FES.
  2. Candidate shall have exemplified and consistently worked to instill the ideals of professional engineering in the students.
  3. The candidate shall NOT be a part or full-time engineering faculty member.
  4. The candidate shall have shown support and offered guidance to engineering students, and encouraged participation in a worthwhile student activities and societies.

Procedures

  1. A candidate may be nominated by a local student chapter through the chapter’s president, prior to May 1 of each year.
  2. Each student chapter may submit only one nominee each year.
  3. The chapter nomination shall be in written form and include a complete resume on the candidate together with such other materials as may be helpful to the judging committee in its review.
  4. The nomination shall contain a citation written by a student chapter member illustrating how the candidate meets the basic criteria. The nomination shall contain endorsing signatures of all the student chapter officers.
  5. The judging subcommittee shall consist of not more than five members of the Student Professional Development Committee and may be reappointed from previous committee. The subcommittee can be the same as that appointed to judge the other awards of the Student Professional Development Committee.
  6. The award shall consist of a suitable plaque or certificate.
